MSDYN365BC 2020 Wave 1 - Data Upgrade Paths.

Hi Readers,

This question is being asked so many times when you start thinking about upgrades. I don't know why there is so much confusion about upgrade Paths to latest and greatest version of Business central.

If you ever heard that there is no upgrade path from a specific version of NAV to Business central then I am confirm that it was a incorrect Information.

No. of Steps are same for msdyn365bc 2020 wave 2. (17.0)

In this post I will discuss and share paths of Upgrading from any NAV Version to Latest and Greatest version of the product. Microsoft have given us Upgrade path which make to possible to upgrade NAV to BC from any version.

We will start from latest and go toward as far as I remember history.

** Remember these are upgrade paths, It doesn't means that you (as customer) have to upgrade multiple times. It means that your partner will have to do multiple code merges to upgrade but its all can happen in one single upgrade.

1. Upgrading from Business Central 14.x or 15.x to Business Central 2020 Release (16.x) / (17.x).

This is a one step upgrade. There are direct path from Microsoft to upgrade from Business Central 14 and 15 to Business Central 16.x or Business Central 17.x.



2. Upgrading from NAV 2015, NAV 2016, NAV 2017, NAV 2018 & Business Central 13 to Business Central 2020 (16.x) / 17.x.

This is a two step upgrade Process.
Step 1 - Upgrade To Business Central 14.
Step 2 - Upgrade to Business Central 2020 Release Wave 1 / Wave 2.



3. Upgrading from NAV 2013 & NAV 2013 R2 to Business Central 2020 (16.x) / 17.x.

This is a three step upgrade Process.
Step 1 - Upgrade to NAV 2018.
Step 2 - Upgrade To Business Central 14.
Step 3 - Upgrade to Business Central 2020 Release Wave 1 / Wave 2.



4. Upgrading from NAV 2009/SP1/R2 to Business Central 2020 (16.x) / 17.x.

This is a three step upgrade Process.
Step 1 - Upgrade to NAV 2015.
Step 2 - Upgrade To Business Central 14.
Step 3 - Upgrade to Business Central 2020 Release Wave 1 / Wave 2.



5. Upgrading from NAV 5, NAV 4 & NAV 3.7 to Business Central 2020 (16.x) / 17.x.

This is a four step upgrade Process.
Step 1 - Upgrade to NAV 2009/SP1/R2.
Step 2 - Upgrade to NAV 2015.
Step 3 - Upgrade To Business Central 14.
Step 4 - Upgrade to Business Central 2020 Release Wave 1 / Wave 2.



6. Upgrading from NAV 3.6, NAV 3.1, NAV 3.01, NAV 2.65, NAV 2.60 to Business Central 2020  (16.x) / 17.x.

This is a five step upgrade Process.
Step 1 - Upgrade to NAV 4.
Step 2 - Upgrade to NAV 2009/SP1/R2.
Step 3 - Upgrade to NAV 2015.
Step 4 - Upgrade To Business Central 14.
Step 5 - Upgrade to Business Central 2020 Release Wave 1 / Wave 2.



You may have to choose other intermediate versions if you have addon dependencies.
