MSDYN365BC 2020 Wave 1 - Data Upgrade Options.

Hi Readers,

With Release of Business Central 2020 Release Wave 1, the most asked question is about data upgrade to Business Central 2020 Wave 1.

Microsoft did not released Upgrade path with the release of Product.

If you haven't noticed after release of Business Central 2019 Release Wave 2, Upgrade Toolkit is not part of Product DVD.

From Business Central 2019 Release Wave 2 (15.x), Microsoft change base Microsoft objects to Base App. The Upgrade Toolkit is also part of the Base App.

Microsoft published upgrade path and steps in the MSDN whenever a new version is released.

With that being said Microsoft have released Upgrade path to Business Central 2020 Release Wave 1 (16.x).

To Upgrade to Business Central 2020 Release Wave 1 (16.x) Customer database should be in following versions -

1. Business Central 14.x
    OR
2. Business Central 2019 Release Wave 2 (15.x)

Microsoft have released multiple ways for Data upgrade to Business Central 16.x.
You can choose one that better fits to your client needs.

Following options are available -

1. Upgrading Unmodified C/AL Application to Version 16
** No Base Code Modified & Customs in C/AL

2. Upgrading Customized C/AL Application to Microsoft Base Application
** Base Code Modified & Customs in C/AL

Additionally if in a scenario you need to a Technical Upgrade (Executables Update only) then -

2. Technical Upgrade from Version 15 to Version 16

In future articles I will try to demo all these different variants of data migration to BC 16.x.

Hope you find this information useful.

Hi Readers, As discussed in last article about deprecating of Business Central Administration, there are few common actions that we use in administration till Business Central 20. MSDYN365BC - Data Upgrade To Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central on premises.

Hi Readers, We have already talked about the number of steps for upgrading to Business Central on Premises from different NAV versions. After that article, I received multiple requests for an article which list down steps for Data Migration. In this article, we will discuss steps of data migration to MSDYN365BC (on-Prem) from NAV 2017. For this article, I am considering a Cronus Demo Database without any customization. For an actual upgrade project, we will have to complete object merge using compare and Merge process. After the Merge Process, the next step is data migration. Let's discuss those steps. Direct Upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (on-Prem) is from following versions - 1. NAV 2015. 2. NAV 2016. 3. NAV 2017. 4. NAV 2018.
