MSDYN35BC Wave 2 - How to Set New AL File Icon?

Hi Readers,

This is a quick blog about a query that I received from someone in the article "MSDYN365BC Wave 2 - How to Connect to VS Code."


In this article, we will discuss how you as AL Developer can change the file icons in the Visual Studio Code.

With Latest version of AL Extension there are some changes for developers about how objects icon look in VS Code.

File Icon in Visual studio code is completely configurable. You can choose from Multiple file icons available in VS Code by default.

You can also have a File Icon Extension (From extension management page) that gives more flexibility to choose an icon theme that you like.

Updating the AL Programming Extension if you still see default VS Code icons as shown below.


Using Command Palette (Ctrl+Shift+P), Search for File Icon as shown below.


In the Preferences: File Icon Theme Choose AL to set AL File Icon from the Latest AL Programming Extension.

If you want to look for other cool file icons, you can choose Install Additional File Icon Themes from same screen and the VS Code Extension page will filter all file icons extension that you can use.

I use VSCode Icons, which is an extension.

After you change the File Icon Theme to AL, you will file icons that are updated.

    another good looking way is to download the VS Code Extension "vscode-icons" (https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=vscode-icons-team.vscode-icons).

    Hi @Richo Trobish,
    Yes i use that extension for VS Code Icons. I think if they add AL icon from microsoft that will be cool update on that extension.
