MSDYN35BC 2019 Wave 2 - How Do I Create a New Database?

Hi Readers,

In previous articles, we have setup a demo environment for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central 2019 Wave 2 Release.

In this article, we will discuss how to create a new database in 2019 Wave 2.

With Business Central 2019 Wave 2, as there is no development environment then how we cannot create a new database?

Here comes Powershell our old friend that will help us with all this. Let's see step by step process.

1. Search & start Powershell ISE as administrator (Not Powershell ISE x86) as everything is 64 bit.

2. Import-Module for Business Central Wave 2 and refresh command panel on the right.

Import-Module 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central\150\Service\NavAdminTool.ps1'

3. Search and use cmdlet New-NAVApplicationDatabase to create a new database for Business Central.

New-NAVApplicationDatabase -DatabaseName <Database Name> -DatabaseLocation <Folder for file path> -DatabaseServer <SQL Server Name>

** Change <Database Name> with the actual database name.
** Change <Folder for file path> with the Folder path where you want to save database files.
** Change <SQL Server Name> with the SQL Server Name.

Additionally, you can set Collation to the database.

4. This command will create Data and Log files in the path specified in the PowerShell cmdlet.

In the next articles, we will discuss more missing options that were available with the Development Environment.

Hope you find the information useful.
