#msdyn365bc 2021 Release Wave 2 - Job queue entries are more resilient toward failures.

Hi Readers,

In this series we will discuss what's new in Business Central 2021 (Wave 2) a.k.a BC19.

This article we will discuss about - Job queue entries are more resilient toward failures.

With this series we will understand what's new the product and learn it before it becomes available for customers.

Feature Details -

Users can schedule a job to run later and be sure that it will be run by Business Central.

If the job has an error, users will be notified about the error in telemetry, so they can take an action.

Explanation -

Job Queue runs with Task Scheduler. A Task Scheduler can also create task from code.

To Create a Task you need to specify Codeunit to run and a Codeunit that runs in case of Task Failure.

A job queue task can be interrupted for many reasons like -

  • Extension Upgrade.
  • SQL Connection.
  • Timeouts.
  • Locks.

Till Business Central 18, when an Exception occur the Failure Codeunit runs in the same session.  But in some cases, this session could be unusable, so the failure Codeunit couldn't run.

With Business Central 19 -

  • New exception logic handling for the task scheduler/job queue.
  • A failure code unit runs immediately in a different session.
  • Job queue uses the new task scheduler implementation.

Hope you learn and will be able to utilize this feature as Business Central 19 is available.
