Is My #msdynnav and #msdyn365bc in Mainstream Support?

Hi Readers,

It Seems there are lot of questions of Product Versions which are still under Mainstream Support from Microsoft.

In this article we will discuss about -

  • Which Versions of Dynamics NAV are in Mainstream Support?
  • Which Version of Business Central are in Mainstream Support?
  • Which Version I can Purchase as of Today?
  • Which Version I can Upgrade to as of Today?
#msdyn365bc #msdynnav

As of Today October 12, 2021

3 Versions of Dynamics NAV are still Supported (Dynamics NAV means - C/AL is available)
  • Dynamics NAV 2017.
  • Dynamics NAV 2018.
  • Business Central 14.

3 Version of Business Central are still Supported ( Business Central means - Only AL)
  • 2020 release wave 2, version 17.x
  • 2021 release wave 1, version 18.x
  • 2021 release wave 2, version 19.x
* Every Time a New Version is released (Every 6 month) a version of business central will go out of Mainstream Support.

Which Version I can Purchase?
  • Starting October 2021 (Due to Novel Covid Virus this date was extended to 1 Year), Customers cannot purchase Business Central 14 License.
  • So after October 2021, customers can only purchase Business Central 17 and higher license only.
Which Version I can Upgrade To?
  • Customers can only upgrade to Business Central only.

What Does all that Means?
  • Starting October 2021, no More new C/AL Customers. Its kind of beginning of end for C/AL era.
  • Customers who are in Business Central 14 can use it till Oct 10, 2023 which will be an complete end of C/AL era. (End of Mainstream Support)
What is the Best Option for a Customer?
  • If a customer is still using C/AL, then they should upgrade to Business Central Version.
  • If a customer is already using AL, then they are already in the modern world.
Why Should I upgrade To AL Version (Business Central)?
  • Once you Upgraded to Business Central (AL) Version then Upgrades are nearly non-event.
  • AL Versions upgrades are similar, easier and your upgrade experience will be earlier than any upgrade that you have done in past.
Should I upgrade to BC Online / BC SaaS?
  • I leave that decision to customer, but if you ask me upgrading to BC Online is best option for every customer.
  • Upgrades will happen automatically every month by Microsoft.

Hope this clarifies all the questions that you have about active versions.

If you have question, please add those in comments to this articles.
