NAV RTC - Get Data From Navision in a External Application using Web Services - Part 1

Hi all,

Let's See Today How to Read Data From Navision Using an External Application - Part 1.

Agenda for Part 1 & Part 2 -

Part 1 -
1) Create a Codeunit in Navision to get inventory when user sends the Item No.
2) Create & Publish a Web Service in Navision.
3) Create a Windows Based Application in Visual Studio.


Part 2 -

4) Connect the windows Application to Navision Using Web Service.
5) Get Inventory value from Navision.
6) How to use Application created during these post.

* Below steps are done in NAV 2013 R2, steps remain Same for NAV 2009 and onward.

Step 1 - Create a Codeunit in Navision to get inventory.

I have created a Codeunit 50000 with Two Functions as of Now, One to validate Item No. Received from external application and second to calculate inventory of item and return value to External Application.



Step 2 - Create & Publish a Web Service in Navision.

Open the Role Tailored client and publish the Codeunit 5000 as web service.

Step 3 - Create a Windows Based Application in Visual Studio.
* Following images are from visual studio 2010, remain same for previous version too.

1. Open Microsoft Visual Studio from start Menu.
2. Select Windows Forms Application.



3. Do the designing part, what we need is (Using Toolbox)-
 - Two Text Box
1 - User will end Item No.
        2 - To Display Value Returned from Navision.
 - A Button to Call the Navision Function.

NAV 2013 Upgrade Part III - Data Upgrading.

Hi all, As per agenda we need to discuss the data upgrade in NAV 2013. The process is similar to what used to be till NAV 2009 R2 but with some changes. Let's start the process. Remember -  1) You can only upgrade a database to NAV 2013 from NAV 2009 SP1 / R2 SQL Only. 2) The Synchronization of users with SQL Server is no more required.
