Navision Classic Client - Shortcut Points to a specific Database.

Hi all,

Just a small Post, but this was asked to me by lot of peoples, so planned to keep user updated.

Most of you might know it.

Consider a scenario where company have two databases, say a Live Database and Test Database.

Each database have multiple companies.

Now client ask you to create two shortcuts which Points to Live & Test Database receptively and opens a specific company.

So below is way how you can do that -

1. Right click on say desktop and select new shortcut.

2. It will ask you the command name or path that you want to execute via this shortcut.

3. Let's see how to create command.

  a) Provide the path of Exe where it is located in your drive.

     * In My case the exe is located in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics NAV\60\Classic\finsql.exe"
     * Mandatory parameter.

  b) Now I Require to provide server Name.(Parameter Server Name)

     * In My Case its TestServer.
     * Mandatory Parameter in case of Database on SQL Server.

  c) Now I Require Parameter i.e. database Name. (Parameter Database) -

     * In My Case its Demo Database NAV (6-0).
     * In case of Native database Specify complete path with database name.
     * Mandatory Parameter.

  d) Now I Need to provide the company Name. (Parameter Company)

     * In My Case Company is Cronus India Ltd.
     * Additional Parameter Required if you want to open a company.

  e) Now I need to provide the authentication type. (Parameter NTAuthentication)

     * ntauthentication have value 1 & 0 for Windows & Database Login Respectively.
     * Additional Parameter Required if you want to Specify authentication, if not specified it take information based on zup file.

  f) If required we can also specify Net Type. (parameter NetType).

     * I will be using Net Type as TCP.
     * Additional Parameter Required if you want to NET TYPE, if not specified it take information based on zup file.

  g) If you require to specify the path of zup file. (Parameter ID).

     * Parameter is not mandatory.
     * Additional Parameter Required if you want to Specify ZUP File.

So my complete command without zup file is - (Remember parameter are separated by (Comma and a space).

NATIVE DATABASE-

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics NAV\60\Classic\fin.exe" database=D:\NAV 6.0 R2 IN\Database\database.fdb, COMPANY="CRONUS India Ltd.", ntauthentication=1, nettype=tcp

SQL DATABASE -

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics NAV\60\Classic\finsql.exe" servername=TestServer, database=Demo Database NAV (6-0), COMPANY="CRONUS India Ltd.", ntauthentication=1

4. Copy the complete command in the shortcut window as shown below.

5. Provide a friendly name to shortcut.

6. click Finish and shortcut is ready on your desktop.

7. You can replace the server name, database name, company name in above command and create as many shortcuts as you want.

In Next Post we will see how to open a specific object via a shortcut.
